One in 10 babies are born premature. One million die needlessly every single year, due to the complications of premature birth. 75% of these deaths could be prevented with simple interventions such as warming.
Conventional incubators are large, complicated and expensive. The mOm Incubator was designed to overcome these issues and make high quality infant warming more affordable and accessible around the world.
The mOm Incubator is an inexpensive, electronically controlled, inflatable incubator constructed to decrease the number of premature child deaths around the world. mOm presents a 90% cost saving over conventional incubators and can be compacted to a fraction of the size at less than 10% the weight, which means that it can be used in-situ or transported to where it is needed for developed as well as developing markets.
In addition to this, the mOm Incubator’s inflatable body can be completely replaced for every child. This is not only cheaper than cleaning a system due to time costs, but it also could potentially alleviate the infection risk associated with incubators which is said to be the second largest killer of premature children after Hypothermia.
mOm raised a seed round of £630,000 in June 2016. Currently, the company is approaching the clinical stage of development and plans to raise a £5 – 10 Million Series A by end of 2018.
