MedTech Innovator Announces Top 15 Startups Selected for Pediatric Accelerator Program
Pediatric Cohort Features Early-Stage Companies Developing Transformative Pediatric Health Innovations
LOS ANGELES – July 21st, 2020 – MedTech Innovator and The National Capital Consortium for Pediatric Device Innovation (NCC-PDI), have announced the 15 companies selected to participate in the MedTech Innovator Pediatric Accelerator program. These promising startups will receive unparalleled visibility and access to leading product manufacturers, providers, investors, and other industry stakeholders.
NCC-PDI is one of five members in the FDA’s Pediatric Device Consortia Grant Program created to support the development and commercialization of medical devices for children, which lags significantly behind the progress of adult medical devices. NCC-PDI is led by the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation at Children’s National Hospital and the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland.
“We are proud to announce the top 15 companies chosen to take part in the second annual MedTech Innovator Pediatric Accelerator,” said Paul Grand, CEO of MedTech Innovator. “Pediatric medical technologies are known to endure long and challenging roads to commercialization. We look forward to aiding in this process by providing these companies with specialized mentoring and guidance from experienced industry leaders. Together, we aim to support the advancement of ground-breaking pediatric devices to improve the lives of our most vulnerable population.”
“The pace of advancement for pediatric medical devices remains significantly behind adult devices, while children, who represent our future, should be a priority in benefiting from the best treatments and technologies available,” said Kolaleh Eskandanian, Ph.D., MBA, PMP, vice president and chief innovation officer at Children’s National Hospital and principal investigator of NCC-PDI. “In our mission to help more pediatric innovators deliver game-changing technologies to clinicians and patients, we work with the best in the industry. We are excited to have MedTech Innovator as our partner to lead this first-in-its-kind Pediatric Device Accelerator Program.”
Two of the 15 companies have also been selected to participate in MedTech Innovator’s award-winning U.S. Accelerator Showcase program, in which medtech startups are matched with senior industry leaders to receive continual in-depth, customized mentorship and support. The selection process for this year’s Accelerator program was extremely competitive, with only a 3% acceptance rate.
