Description

The knee is an important joint for all of us and very vulnerable. Knee injuries with meniscus damage and partial or total removal on the meniscus has become very common. Return to sports and daily life is quick but 50% of these knee injuries gradually develop osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee, a chronic and painful condition where the cartilage covering the end of the bones breaks down, causing pain, stiffness and swelling.

As a result, many patients suffer from pain and immobility at a relatively young age. In the US there are 500.000 new patients (35-64 years old) every year with early onset OA. These patients rely on physiotherapy, medications, injections to maintain some quality of life resulting in significant medical and societal cost.

There is no effective therapy at this stage to regain the natural function of the meniscus. The goal of the Trammpolin® meniscus prosthesis is to restore the meniscus function with an anatomically shaped spacer, which will provide pain relief, restore mobility and improve the quality of life in these patients.
