Grand Prize Competition Set to Take Place on Oct. 14 in Carlsbad, Calif.

LOS ANGELES, October 7, 2021 – BioTools Innovator, a new program focused on accelerating life science tools and diagnostics, announced that Celldom, Clara Biotech, Epicypher, Glyphic Biotechnologies, and Machine Bio have been selected as finalists, out of more than 150 applicants, to compete for the title of the first BioTools Innovator program winner. Attendees of the BioTools Innovator Capstone Event, which brings together senior executives, investors, and top decision-makers in the industry to advance cutting-edge research, will vote for the Grand Prize winner of $200,000 on Thursday, Oct. 14.

The five finalist companies are:

  • Celldom is developing a technology that enables the paired analysis of phenotypic and genomic heterogeneity in large populations of cells.
  • Clara Biotech is developing an exosome isolation platform enabling next generation biotechnology.
  • EpiCypher is developing a multiomic assay that quantitatively maps DNA methylation and chromatin elements for drug discovery.
  • Glyphic Biotechnologies is developing a single-molecule, massively parallel, de novo protein sequencing platform.
  • Machine Bio is developing the Transmembrane Protein Synthesis Platform, a technology that can produce pure protein in hours.

The livestreamed BioTools Innovator 2021 Capstone Event takes place at the Westin Carlsbad Resort and Spa immediately following the conclusion of the Cell & Gene Meeting on the Mesa. The event features panel discussions with the BioTools Innovator 2021 cohort and the $200,000 Grand Prize competition. During the competition finals, each of the five companies will have seven minutes to pitch their technology and answer questions from a panel of four judges. After the presentations, the audience will vote in real-time to select the winner. Attendees will also have the opportunity to network with investors, senior executives from life science tools companies, and others. Register here to attend the event.

The judges participating in this year’s Grand Finals are: Shaun Kirkpatrick, president, Biotechnologies, Research Corporation Technologies; Chad Souvignier, vice president, Research Corporation Technologies; Bill Snider, partner, BroadOak Capital Partners; Bryan Poltilove, managing director, BroadOak Capital Partners.

“It is an honor to announce the five finalists of our new BioTools Innovator Accelerator program,” said Kathryn Zavala, managing director of BioTools Innovator. “Throughout the entire program, I have been so impressed by the finalist companies, and I am confident they will bring real value to the life science industry.
