MedTech Innovator to Host FDA for Experiential Learning Program Site Visit
LOS ANGELES – MedTech Innovator, the industry’s nonprofit global competition and accelerator, announced today it has been selected as a formal training site for the FDA Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) Experiential Learning Program (ELP) in 2018. Trainees from CDRH will participate in the MedTech Innovator Summit on June 20-22 in San Francisco.
The goal of the ELP is to bridge the information gap between the industry’s newest and most transformative technologies and the FDA’s submission and review process. The program allows CDRH staff reviewers to participate in real-world, hands-on trainings led by industry stakeholders to ensure they see and understand how cutting-edge medical technologies are created, clinically validated, produced, and utilized in a healthcare setting.
An integral component of the MedTech Innovator ELP partnership is the annual MedTech Innovator Summit, a three-day kickoff event for the MedTech Innovator Accelerator Program. At the summit, founders from the 20-company MedTech Innovator Accelerator cohort will gather with key opinion leaders in the healthcare ecosystem, including manufacturers, investors, providers and government regulators.
The MedTech Innovator Summit provides a unique environment for CDRH reviewers to participate in multi-level discussions with early-stage company founders and leading experts across product development, intellectual property, reimbursement, regulatory approval, and fundraising. The site visits are meant to educate CDRH staff on the challenges faced by medtech startups across the product development and commercialization cycle.
“We’re pleased to have the opportunity to collaborate with FDA on the ELP program and see mutual benefit for the CDRH staff reviewers and the leaders of our startups, who are creating transformative devices, diagnostic tests, digital platforms and software that will shape the next generation of healthcare technologies,” MedTech Innovator CEO Paul Grand said. “Programs like this are vital to ensuring a modernized FDA that is equipped to understand not only the technical aspects of the very latest in medtech advancements but also the value to patients and the healthcare system.”
