MedTech Innovator Announces 2023 Grand Prize Finalists

World’s largest medtech accelerator has fostered more than 500 companies, representing some 200 FDA approvals and clearances, and bringing in $6.8 billion in follow-on funding 

LOS ANGELES – September 28, 2023 – MedTech Innovator, the world’s largest accelerator of medical technology companies, today announced the finalists from its 61-company 2023 U.S. Accelerator Cohort. 

The five finalists include Fingy3D (Morgantown, W.Va.), developer of a line of on-demand custom prosthetic fingers; IFPx (Irvine, Calif.), maker of a patient monitoring system that directly measures fluid buildup; Neurava (West Lafayette, Ind.), a medical device company developing wearables to track epilepsy; Newrotex (United Kingdom), developer of a silk-based surgical nerve repair technology; and StrokeDx (Yorba Linda, Calif.), maker of a portable stroke diagnosis technology. 

Each company will receive $25,000 and the chance to compete for the $350,000 non-dilutive grand prize at The MedTech Conference powered by AdvaMed, October 9-11. During the competition finals, which will be held on the Plenary Stage on Tuesday, Oct.10 at 4 p.m. PT, each of the five companies will pitch their technology and answer questions from a panel of four judges. After the presentations, the audience will vote in real-time to select the winner. 

The finals judges are Virginia Giddings, senior director, Exploration, Advanced Technology, Edwards Lifesciences; Townsend Goddard, SVP, Global Head of Business Development, Olympus; Stephanie Klocke, Vice President, Research and Development, BD; and Mirren Mandalia, senior director, Business Development, Johnson & Johnson MedTech.

Additionally, five companies have been selected to compete for the Execution Award, presented jointly by AdvaMed Accel and MedTech Innovator. The Execution Award recognizes strong leadership teams with next-generation innovations and the resources to successfully execute their goals of improving patient care. The five finalists include Hypervision Surgical (United Kingdom), developer of advanced computer-assisted tissue analysis; InterShunt Technologies (Fridley, Minn.), creating a proprietary transcatheter system; Opticyte (Seattle), manufacturing the first device to measure oxygen levels inside cells in real time; Prana Thoracic (Houston), developer of an electrosurgical instrument for single-port excision of lung tissue; and Sparta Biomedical (Research Triangle, N.C.), creator of the first-of-its-kind chemically engineered cartilage platform.

The finalists for each competition were chosen from 61 companies selected to participate in MedTech Innovator’s flagship four-month MedTech Accelerator program. Featuring medical device, diagnostic, and digital health companies from around the globe, the 2023 finalists received unparalleled visibility and access to leading medtech manufacturers, providers, investors, and other industry stakeholders. All 61 companies will present in Showcase panels and gain access to industry and investor partnering opportunities at The MedTech Conference.
