Eximis Surgical Wins $25K MedTech Innovator Value Award

Audience at the 25th Annual WSGR Medical Device Conference Voted to Choose Winner

San Francisco, June 7, 2017 – MedTech Innovator, the medtech industry’s nonprofit global competition and accelerator, congratulates Eximis Surgical for being selected as its Value Award winner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati’s 25th Annual Medical Device Conference on Friday, June 2.

Eximis Surgical’s Xcor device enables the safe and efficient removal of large specimens through small incisions by separating the specimen into narrow strips for easier pathology identification. The company’s mission is to ease patient discomfort, deliver safe outcomes, and leave nothing harmful behind. As the Value Award winner, Eximis will receive a $25,000 non-dilutive cash prize and a feature story in “MedTech Strategist.”

“This is the fifth year that we have held a competition at the WSGR Medical Device Conference, and the caliber of companies competing gets better each year,” said MedTech Innovator CEO Paul Grand. “Eximis is developing an elegant solution to enable minimally invasive surgeries that improve outcomes for patients at lower costs to the healthcare system, and we’re thrilled that their value proposition was recognized by an audience of more than 300 executives from our industry.”

At the Value Award competition, four companies from the MedTech Innovator Accelerator were selected to present before a panel of judges and the audience of WSGR’s conference attendees. The companies – Allotrope Medical, Day Zero Diagnostics, Eximis Surgical, and Nanowear – each had five minutes to present their products, business plans, and value proposition to the healthcare ecosystem then another five minutes to answer the judges’ questions. The judges were Praveen Raja of Amgen, Amy Kobe of Baxter Ventures, Jennifer Kozak of Johnson & Johnson, and Jenell Paul-Robinson of MedTech Innovator.

The Value Award competition was preceded by a two-day kickoff event for the 20 MedTech Innovator accelerator companies who were selected from a field of nearly 600 companies around the globe. During the kick-off, the accelerator companies had the opportunity to meet with healthcare providers who helped them refine their value proposition messaging, and they presented to an audience of over hundred healthcare industry stakeholders. Their value propositions were used to select the four companies who competed for the WSGR audience on June 2.

“Eximis was delighted to compete in MedTech Innovator’s Value Award competition and is very proud to have won the audience vote,” said CEO Kristin Johnson. “We recognize the need for a gentler approach to specimen removal and believe our solution will provide a significantly better experience for the patient and surgeon.”

All four companies will go on to the MedTech Innovator Showcase and have a chance to present in the competition finals, both of which will be held Sept. 25 to 27 in San Jose, Calif., during The MedTech Conference powered by AdvaMed.
