A university spinout which specialises in hyperspectral imaging to assist surgeons has clinched a £17m funding boost from investors including London-listed IP Group.

Sky News understands that Hypervision Surgical, which was incubated at King’s College London, will announce on Wednesday that it has landed the Series A financing round. The fundraising was led by Heal Capital, with other investors including Angelini Ventures, IP Group, and Daycrest, as well as follow-on investment from existing investors HERAN Partners, Redalpine, LifeX Ventures, and ZEISS Ventures. It was also backed by investment from the SINC Fund, which is managed by SAGES Ingenuity, a for-profit subsidiary of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, a global surgical society. Macmillan Cancer Support, the UK’s leading cancer charity, was also among the investors in the round.

Hypervision Surgical said the new capital would allow it to accelerate the commercial deployment of its Hyperspectral Intelligence technology.
