Forbes Women: The 40 French Women Who Count In 2019

Here are our 40 Forbes Women! Whether they are leaders of large groups, artists, researchers or high-level sports, they symbolize in their own way the success of women. They have sometimes  failed, but these women, known or not of the general public, embody excellence, the future and the passion for entrepreneurship . They are the “Forbes Women” selected by our jury.

The jury was composed of well-known personalities: Marie Christine Levet (Founder Educapital), Marion Darrieutort (CEO at Elan Edelman), Frédérique Bel (Actress), Marc Simoncini (Founder Jaïna Capital), Xavier Romatet (General Director, French Institute of Fashion ) and Dominique Busso (CEO Forbes France).

Martine Abbou
AGE : 66 • PROFESSION : FOUNDER OF WIMADAME
Martine Abbou created the Wimadame network in a desire to act for women. Intrigued by the world of digital, she invited herself to the Women’s Forum. She found that a large number of talented women remained in the shadows and did not have the chance to integrate certain networks. It has therefore taken the initiative to create a network for these women, dedicated to women’s entrepreneurship in Europe. Startupers, students, coaches, employees, journalists: women from all walks of life who are concerned by Wimadame.

Christine Ammirati
AGE : 60 YEARS • PROFESSION : PROFESSOR AND RESEARCHER
Professor Christine Ammirati is at the origin of SimUSanté, the center for active education and simulation in health, and is currently coordinating her scientific and pedagogical activities. Associate Professor of Universities, hospital practitioner in anesthesia-intensive care and emergency medicine, Christine Ammirati heads the Department of Emergency Medicine, Forensic and Social Medicine. Doctor in education sciences, associate researcher at the Laboratory of Health Education and Practices at Paris XIII University, she leads the pedagogical department of the Faculty of Medicine.

Nathalie Balla
AGE : 51 • PROFESSION : CEO DE LA REDOUTE
The financial training of Nathalie Balla, a graduate of ESCP, gave her a good understanding of economic issues. After experiences in the group Karstadt Quelle and Klingel, she decided to take over the company La Redoute. The legendary catalog, on the edge of the precipice, takes a second wind under the yoke of Nathalie Balla, including an investment of 50 million euros in the creation of a new warehouse for faster delivery. Nathalie Balla receives the Hope Award from the Woman of Economic Influence and the Innovation Trophy e-commerce in 2014, then is the revelation of the year at the BFM Awards in 2017. Julia Bijaoui
AGE : 30 YEARS • PROFESSION : PRESIDENT OF FRICHTI
A graduate of HEC, Julia Bijaoui worked until 2015 on the development of Birchbox, before founding her own start-up food (with Quentin, her partner and partner). The concept of Frichti? Deliver in a few minutes fresh and elaborate meals, made internally by a brigade of cooks. Julia Bijaoui is a figurehead of the foodtech movement in France. It was in the Forbes “Under 30” ranking in 2018.

 

Marie Bochet
AGE : 25 YEARS • PROFESSION : SKIEUSE HANDISPORT
Marie Bochet was born on February 9, 1994 in Chambéry with an agenesis of the left forearm. Despite this handicap, the Savoyard rides on skis from the age of 5 years. At age 11, she played her first races in the French Alpine Ski Championship. Her ascent was dazzling since for her first Paralympic Games, in 2010 in Vancouver, Marie Bochet was at the foot of the slalom and super-combined podium in the standing category. After winning seven world championship titles, she competed in her second Paralympic Games in Sochi in 2014. At just 20 years old, she managed the feat of winning four gold medals out of five possible. She wins the downhill, the super-G, the giant slalom and the super-combined. Marie Bochet falls in her favorite discipline, the slalom. The young woman is rewarded by the Legion of Honor,

 

Nathalie Boy de La Tour
AGE : 50 YEARS • PROFESSION : DIRECTOR OF THE PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Graduate of ESCP Europe in 1991, Nathalie Boy de La Tour began her career by integrating the Bossard Gemini consulting firm from 1992 to 2002. In 2004, she co-founded the Parisian show Galaxy Foot7, then in February 2008, she participated in the launch of the Football FoundaTion, which consists of developing “innovative actions to promote a citizen’s vision of football”. In 2011, she received the rank of Knight of the National Order of Merit. In July 2013, she became the first woman to sit on the Board of Directors of the Professional Football League (LFP), and in November 2016 she was elected to the presidency for four years. Under his leadership, the LFP signs a partnership with WWF France to encourage clubs to reduce their carbon footprint.

Christelle Brua
AGE : 41 • PROFESSION : PÂTISSIÈRE
Christelle Brua began her career as a cook in her parents’ inn. But it is with Jean-Georges Klein, at the restaurant L’Arnsbourg, that she will find her vocation: pastry. The admiration that she always felt for Frédéric Anton is fulfilled when he chose it in 2003 as pastry chef of Pré Catelan, a function she still practices today. In 2009, she was voted pastry chef of the year by her peers, and best pastry chef of the year by the Gault & Millau guide in 2014. Agnès Buzyn
AGE : 56 • PROFESSION : MINISTER OF SOLIDARITY AND HEALTH
Agnès Buzyn is a politician and professor of medicine. A specialist in hematology, she has worked mainly as a head of an intensive care unit in connection with adult hematology. As a professor, she teaches tumor immunology and hematology. At the same time, she held various positions, including Chair of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN), member of the Atomic Energy Committee of the Atomic Energy Commission and President of the College of Nuclear Energy. Julie Chapon
AGE : 30 YEARS • PROFESSION : YUKA COFONDATOR
Julie Chapon is the co-founder of Yuka, in charge of communication since the launch of the application in January 2017. Yuka allows to know in a scan the composition of food or cosmetic products . As a result, the consumer can buy what is best for him and avoid harmful additives. The application already has more than 5 million users.

 

Christine And the Queens
AGE : 30 YEARS • PROFESSION : COMPOSER AND INTERPRETER

Marion Cotillard

Clémence Franc

Clara Gaymard
AGE : 59 YEARS • PROFESSION : WRITER AND COFONDATOR DERAISE
A graduate of the Paris Institute of Political Studies and a former student of ENA, Clara Gaymard is a French businesswoman and high-ranking official, as well as a writer. She is the co-founder of Raise, an entrepreneurial ecosystem that supports businesses through an investment company and a foundation. She was President of General Electric France from 2006 to 2016 and Vice-President of General Electric International from 2009 to 2016. In 2014, she used her expertise and network to promote the acquisition of the energy business of Alstom. Since February 2014, she has been President of the American Chamber of Commerce in France (AmCham France), and a member of the Board of Directors of the French-American Foundation.

 

Isabelle Guion de Méritens
AGE : 56 • PROFESSION : OFFICER OF GENDARMERIE

Astrophysicist specializing in space debris, Fatoumata Kébé has been named by Vanity Fair magazine as one of the most influential French women in the world in 2018.After a degree in mechanical engineering, she prepares a PhD in astronomy and supports her thesis in 2016 entitled “Study of the influence of pulse rate increments on space debris trajectories”. In 2015, she is one of the faces of the exhibition Space Girls Space Women at the Museum of Arts and Crafts. She launched the Connected Eco project with women’s cooperation in Mali to protect the environment from intensive agriculture. She is also part of two associations that advocate for women’s careers in astronomy: Women & Science and Women in Aerospace.

 

Christine Lagarde
AGE : 63 • PROFESSION : IMF DIRECTOR GENERAL
A political woman and lawyer, Christine Lagarde has been the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) since 2011. After graduating from the Institute of Political Studies in Aix-en-Provence, she studied law and a career in the American international law firm Baker McKenzie, she occupies the position of Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade from 2005 to 2007. A lawyer by training, Sophie L’Hélias worked in New York and Paris for several years before joining the finance industry as managing director of a hedge fund in New York. She then created an advisory business for institutional investors. A specialist in corporate governance, she is co-founder of the International Corporate Governance Network, the first international network of institutional investors dedicated to this topic. She is President of LeaderXXchange, which creates products and methodologies to measure, improve and integrate diversity, sustainability and governance into the strategy of investors, companies and boards of directors. Sophie L’Hélias has been a director of Kering since April 2016.

 

Brigitte Macron
AGE : 66 • PROFESSION : FIRST LADY
Brigitte Macron is the wife of French President Emmanuel Macron. Formerly a professor of letters, she enjoys her role as first lady to support many causes. In August 2014, when her husband was appointed Minister of the Economy, she decided to end her teaching career, but did not lose interest in the world of education. It has very recently decided to open a school based on a principle of reintegration into the world of work for 25-30 years.

 

Patrizia Paterlini-Bréchot
AGE : 65 • PROFESSION : ONCOLOGY RESEARCHER
Patrizia Paterlini-Bréchot is Professor of Cellular and Molecular Biology at Paris-Descartes University. As an oncologist and hematologist, she has been studying cancer since 1982. Rachel Picard

Fany Péchiodat
AGE : 41 • PROFESSION : CO-FOUNDER OF MY LITTLE PARIS AND SEASONLY
Engaged in several projects to promote access to entrepreneurship, Fany Péchiodat is part of the list of ten women to follow in 2019 in the tech established by StartHer.After the huge success of My Little Paris, it is reviving in the entrepreneurial adventure with Seasonly, a brand of personalized face creams. She is putting on a disruptive model of direct sales from her website, with a communication around “real women” on Instagram.

 

Anne Rigail
AGE : 50 YEARS • PROFESSION : AIR FRANCE DIRECTOR GENERAL
A graduate of the Paris School of Mines, Anne Rigail joined Air Inter in 1991, before joining Air France in 1997 after the merger of the two groups. She provides customer service at Paris-Orly airport, then from 1999 is given the responsibility for passenger and luggage correspondence at the hub of Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle airport. After being named Associate Director of Customer Experience in 2017, Anne Rigail oversees ground and flight products and services. Appreciated for her ability to interact with staff, she succeeds Franck Terner on 17 December 2018 as Air France’s Managing Director, becoming the first woman to hold this position.

 

Marlène Schiappa

Marlène Schiappa is a writer, feminist activist and politician. After studies in communication and geography, she works for the communication agency Euro RSCG. She also started politics very quickly, since she was a candidate in the municipal elections in the capital in 2001. She gained notoriety in 2008 when she designed the blog Mom works. At the same time, Marlène Schiappa also writes many books on equality between women and men. Assistant to the Mayor of Le Mans and Community Advisor of Le Mans Métropole from 2014, she is also in charge of the Gender Equality Center of the En Marche movement. She is currently Secretary of State to the Prime Minister, in charge of Equality between women and men and the fight against discrimination.

 

Roxanne Varza

MANAGER F Roxanne Varza runs Station F, the largest start-up campus in the world and emblem of French tech know-how. Daughter of Iranian intellectuals living in the United States after the Islamic Revolution, Roxanne Varza was trained at UCLA before becoming Director of the Microsoft Ventures and TechCrunch France Accelerator. In April 2013, the US online business insider Business Insider ranks it among the 30 most influential women under 30 in the technology sector. She is also co-founder of Girls in Tech Paris and Girls in Tech London, working to increase women’s position in the new technology sector.

 

Sibyle Veil
AGE : 41 • PROFESSION : CEO OF RADIO FRANCE
As one of the top students in the ENA standings, Sibyle Veil joins the large body of the Council of State. During the 2007 presidential campaign, she joined Nicolas Sarkozy on societal issues (environment, women’s conditions). She joined in June 2007 at the Elysee the team that advises the President of the Republic on the social sector. In 2010, she is recruited at the Public Assistance – Paris Hospitals (AP-HP). Member of the executive committee of AP-HP and Director of Transformation, she leads the strategic thinking and organizes the deployment of transformation programs in hospitals. Already present at Radio France as Deputy Director of Operations and Finance since 2015, she was appointed President and CEO in April 2018 by the CSA.
