MedTech Innovator Terms & Conditions

PLEASE READ THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS CAREFULLY. THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS ALSO SERVE AS CONTEST RULES FOR THE MEDTECH INNOVATOR PROGRAM 2024. BY SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION, YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS BELOW. THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE, FROM TIME TO TIME IN OUR SOLE DISCRETION. WE WILL NOTIFY YOU OF AMENDMENTS TO THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS BY POSTING THEM TO THIS WEBSITE.

MedTech Innovator began accepting applications for the 2024 program on November 13, 2023. The program for 2024 includes multiple rounds of the competition in which participants receive additional levels of benefits as they advance:

Applications will be evaluated, and companies identified as being of strategic interest to the selection committee will be invited to pitch in-person or online
A minimum of 50 companies will be selected to join the Accelerator program, which will start on June 1, 2024 and end mid-November, 2024
MedTech Innovator’s 2024 program will include a three-day Summit, including a showcase and participation at the Wilson Sonsini Medical Device and Digital Health Conference on June 14 in San Francisco / Bay Area
MedTech Innovator’s 2024 program will culminate with company presentations in the MedTech Innovator Showcase at The MedTech Conference powered by AdvaMed in Toronto, Canada on October 15-17
Up to five of the Early-Stage Accelerator companies will be selected to present in the finals competition session at The MedTech Conference powered by Advamed on October 16, 2024, and the winner will be selected by an audience vote
Up to five of the Mid-Stage Accelerator companies will be selected to present in the Mid-Stage finals competition session at The MedTech Strategist San Francisco, 2024 and the winner will be selected by an audience vote

Prizes

The MedTech Innovator 2024 program will include cash prizes of at least $700,000 (US$). Prizes for MedTech Innovator 2024 are gifts, with no equity, dilution or similar “strings attached”. Eligibility for further participation and prizes is subject to execution of an Affidavit of Eligibility, Publicity Release, and Liability Waiver.

No equity or application fees

MedTech Innovator is a non-profit with a mission to improve the lives of patients by accelerating the growth of companies that are transforming the healthcare system. There are no application fees, and companies do not give equity to MedTech Innovator or its partners in exchange for participation. To be awarded any benefits or other prizes, companies will be required to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility, Publicity Release, and Liability Waiver.

Eligibility Requirements

All early to mid-stage medtech (medical device, diagnostic, or digital health) companies are eligible to apply. Companies will be evaluated on a variety of criteria including, but not limited to, their management teams, control or access to owned, licensed or protectable IP/technology, development plans, ability to demonstrate a customer-validated market need, and the potential to improve value for healthcare. Companies of all stages are eligible for the Accelerator program.

Intellectual Property

All competition participants will be responsible for taking the proper steps to protect their intellectual property. You agree to submit only non-confidential materials in connection with your application and in connection with any of the presentations, pitches, or other programs that are a part of MedTech Innovator 2024. We will attempt to contact any company submitting materials marked “Confidential” and request appropriate replacement materials without confidentiality markings, but we are not responsible for the confidentiality of any of your materials. The competition process is a public event, from the application process through to the onstage competitions. Judges, organizers, sponsors, reviewers, and other individuals involved do not sign non-disclosure agreements.

The ownership of the technology must be identified. Teams will not be permitted to present ideas based on science and technology owned by third parties who have not licensed their technology to the presenting company (or in the case where negotiations are ongoing, expressed a clear intent to license the technology to the participants, pending agreement on terms). The organizers of the competition may disqualify any team failing to comply with this rule and shall be held harmless due to such action.

Process, Timeline, and Deadlines

Time period for submission of unsolicited applications begins on November 13, 2023 at 12:00 AM ET and ends on January 31, 2024 at 11:59 PM ET. The application is available at https://medtechinnovator.org/apply. Applicants will enter a very competitive process. During the months of February through May, highly-scored applicants may be invited to pitch to a panel of judges in-person or online. After the pitch, participants selected to advance to compete for a slot in the accelerator will be required to submit additional information, including 1-minute videos. In May, a minimum of fifty participants will be selected as Accelerator companies and gain entry to the virtual accelerator. From June through November, Accelerator companies will participate in virtual and in-person events where industry stakeholders will mentor them. Accelerator companies will receive complimentary registration for these in-person events, including the Wilson Sonsini Medical Device and Digital Health conference in San Francisco and The MedTech Conference powered by AdvaMed in Anaheim. During the Accelerator program, the selection process will continue, and up to five Early-Stage Accelerator companies will be selected as Finalists to compete on-stage during The MedTech Conference powered by AdvaMed for the prizes which will be awarded by an audience vote. The final deadline for unsolicited online applications is 11:59 PM ET January 31, 2024 for the 2024 competition. Applications may also be accepted during the months of February through April for consideration that are referred by entities affiliated with MedTech Innovator or directly invited by MedTech Innovator. Applications are open to companies that meet the eligibility criteria listed on the 2024 competition Apply page at https://medtechinnovator.org/apply.

Audience will use their internet or mobile connected devices to vote for the pitch that they think should be the winner. If there is a tie, then a run-off vote will be taken. In the event of a second tie, then the prize will be split between the tying companies.

The winner will be announced in a subsequent press release. Prizes will be distributed within 90 days of the end of the competition.

Applicants invited to advance to the pitch events will be notified by email on a rolling basis from February through April 2024. Event attendees may be photographed or videotaped for use in MedTech Innovator promotional materials. The Accelerator companies will be notified by email by mid-May 2024.

Companies advancing to the 2023 Accelerator program will be required to make a 1-minute video. Deadline for submission of videos for the Showcase will be September 13, 2024.

By submitting an application to MedTech Innovator and/or by attending a MedTech Innovator event, you will automatically be added to the MedTech Innovator mailing list. Your contact information may also be made available to event attendees and/or MedTech Innovator sponsors through our BioBook. Up to 25 “Accelerator” companies will be selected to join in a virtual Accelerator program, which will start on June 1, 2024 and end on September 30, 2024
These Accelerator companies will present in the MedTech Innovator Asia Pacific Showcase at The MedTech Forum in Singapore (September 5 and 6, 2024) and will each receive one complimentary full-access registration to the conference
Up to five of the Accelerator companies will be selected to present in the finals competition session at The MedTech Forum on (September 5 and 6, 2024) and the winner will be selected by an audience vote

Prizes

The MedTech Innovator Asia Pacific 2024 program will include cash prizes of at least $150,000 (USD) as well as conference scholarships and in-kind awards. Prizes for MedTech Innovator 2024 are gifts, with no equity, dilution or similar “strings attached”. Eligibility for further participation and prizes is subject to execution of an Affidavit of Eligibility, Publicity Release, and Liability Waiver.

Accelerator companies will receive complimentary registration for The MedTech Forum in Singapore. During the Accelerator program, the selection process will continue, and up to five Accelerator companies will be selected as Finalists to compete on-stage during The MedTech Forum for the prizes, which will be awarded by an audience vote. The final deadline for unsolicited online applications is 11:59 PM ET January 31 for the 2024 competition. Applications may also be accepted during the months of February through April for consideration that are referred by entities affiliated with MedTech Innovator Asia Pacific or directly invited by MedTech Innovator. Applications are open to companies that meet the eligibility criteria listed on the 2023 competition Apply page at https://medtechinnovator.org/asia-pacific/.

BioTools Innovator 2023 program will culminate with the BioTools Innovator Capstone Event which includes company presentations and the Finals Competition. This event will tentatively take place in September/October 2024
Up to five of the Accelerator companies will be selected to present in the finals competition, which will tentatively take place in September/October 2024 and the winner will be selected by an audience vote
