StrokeDx was among five finalists from the 2023 Accelerator cohort who were selected to compete for the award at WSGR, where the company received the most votes.
StrokeDx’s mission is to transform stroke diagnostic paradigms by delivering faster and more accurate results to healthcare providers, ultimately saving crucial time in critical situations. The company’s innovative technology combines state-of-the-art engineering, novel algorithms, and exceptional end-user design. As the 2023 Vision Award winner, StrokeDx received a $10,500 non-dilutive cash prize and will be profiled in MedTech Strategist.
“We are honored to win this year’s Vision Award among the remarkable companies in the 2023 cohort. Our mission is to revolutionize stroke care with our novel, low-cost, portable technology. Together, the 2023 cohort is reshaping the future of healthcare.”
The five finalists were selected for the Vision Award competition at the MedTech Innovator Summit just prior to the WSGR meeting. Cohort leadership teams and MTI partners in attendance voted for those companies that best meet the following criteria:
- Would personally invest in the company
- Would want to work for
- Possess admirable qualities – genuine, collaborative, and passionate.
Each of the Vision Award finalists – 270Surgical, JuneBrain, Mach32, Plio Medical and StrokeDx –had seven minutes to present their vision and answer questions from the panel of judges. The judges included Biren Mehta, vice president, venture investments, medtech, Johnson & Johnson; Lynn Carney, director, agencies and alliances, Medmarc; and Virginia Giddings, vice president Exploration, Edwards Lifesciences. All five finalists won a cash award, as the $25,000 prize purse was split amongst the finalists according to the proportion of votes each received from the conference audience.
“Each of the competitors had a passionate and compelling story to tell about how their technologies will solve big challenges in healthcare,” said Paul Grand, CEO of MedTech Innovator. “The team at StrokeDx won over the audience with its novel technology designed to speed up care for stroke patients, where time is brain and every second counts. This is an excellent example of how our cohort companies think differently and stand to dramatically improve patient care.”
Prior to the Vision Award competition, MedTech Innovator hosted its annual invite only Innovator Summit for this year’s cohort companies, selected from a pool of over 1,900 applicants during a highly-competitive six-month process. 2023 saw the largest Summit ever, with 280 attendees from the MedTech Innovator U.S. cohort as well as cohorts, alumni and partners from MedTech Innovator Asia Pacific and BioTools Innovator, for a total of 104 new companies.
