Startup with Central Virginia ties moves cartilage-regrowing knee implant into human trials featuring Nanochon
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – For millions of people with knee damage, treatment options can be limited — especially before a full knee replacement is even considered. Now, a startup with ties to Central Virginia is reaching a major milestone that could change how certain knee injuries are treated.
Instead of replacing a damaged knee, the goal is to help it heal itself. That is the focus of Nanochon, a medical device startup now testing technology designed to help regrow damaged cartilage.
According to Bob Creeden, Managing Director of the UVA Licensing and Ventures Group Seed Fund, knee cartilage damage affects a massive number of people each year.
