LOS ANGELES, Wednesday, 18 November, 2020 – MedTech Innovator, the largest accelerator of medical devices in the world, today announced cellvie as the 2020 Value Award winner during the MedTech Strategist Virtual Summit.

Based in Germany, cellvie is developing a device-enabled mitochondria transplantation therapy for heart disease. As winners of the Value Award competition, cellvie will receive a $25,000 non-dilutive cash prize and a profile in an upcoming issue of the MedTech Strategist.

“We are grateful for having had the opportunity to be part of the MedTech Innovator 2020 cohort and humbled for having been chosen as a finalist for the Grand Prize and winner of the Value Award competition,” said Dr. Alexander Schueller, founder and CEO of cellvie. “We thank all mentors, judges, and sponsors for helping cellvie accelerate, and for their contribution to innovation in the medtech industry.”

Six startups from MedTech Innovator’s annual Accelerator program participated in the organization’s Value Award competition. This year’s Value Award finalists – Cerebra, MOWOOT, PolyVascular, SepTec, and Rhaeos – each had seven minutes to present their products, business plans, value propositions, and to answer the judges’ questions. The judges included Shailendra Mahajan, co-founder and managing director, Maxim Ventures; Virginia Giddings, advanced technology exploration, Edwards Lifesciences; Joshua Magnuson, marketing manager, Fujikura; Tonja Danowski, vice president, Business Development, Johnson & Johnson; Michael Neidert, vice president, Strategic Development, Ximedica.

“This year’s group of entrepreneurs reflect MedTech Innovator’s core values and mission to improve the lives of patients by developing innovations with the potential to transform our health care system,” said Paul Grand, CEO of MedTech Innovator. “I am thrilled to recognize cellvie as our Value Award winner and I look forward to tracking the team’s success as they work towards developing a new solution for people living with cardiovascular conditions.”
