National Mall

The National Mall is an open area of gardens, fountains, trees and monuments stretching nearly two miles between the Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial.


Cherry Blossom Festival & Cherry Trees

The best place to see the Washington, D.C. cherry trees is near the Tidal Basin, a particularly scenic part of the National Mall downtown. The Tidal Basin is a man-made reservoir located between the Potomac River and the Washington Channel in Washington, D.C. The Basin is part of West Potomac Park and is a focal point of the Cherry Blossom Festival which features a myriad of events from Wednesday, March 20, 2024 to Sunday, April 14, 2024.

Shimmering in the sun, surrounded by cherry trees and national monuments, the Tidal Basin is a must see in Washington, D.C. The Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and the Washington Monument are easily visible along the two mile long Tidal Basin Loop Trail.

The Metro serves several stations close by:

  • The Smithsonian/National Mall station on the Orange, Blue and Silver lines is the closest Metro station to the Tidal Basin.
  • L’Enfant Plaza, served by the Orange, Silver, Blue, Yellow and Green lines, is about 1 mile away from the Tidal Basin
  • The closest Red Line stations are Farragut North and Metro Center, about 1.2 miles away.

Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History
Established in 1910 and located on the National Mall, this prestigious museum, part of the Smithsonian Institution, holds the world’s most extensive collection of natural history specimens and human artifacts including the remains of dinosaurs and tools used by early man.


Rubell Museum DC
The Rubell Museum’s collection is distinguished by its unprecedented range and depth that has enabled the Museum to organize over 50 exhibitions during the last three decades drawn entirely from its holdings in painting, sculpture, photography, video, and installation. International Spy Museum

Newseum
The mission of the Newseum, located in Washington, D.C., is to increase public understanding of the importance of a free press and the First Amendment. Visitors experience the story of news, the role of a free press in major events in history, and how the core freedoms of the First Amendment — religion, speech, press, assembly and petition — apply to their lives.
