Cherry Blossom Festival & Cherry Trees
The best place to see the Washington, D.C. cherry trees is near the Tidal Basin, a particularly scenic part of the National Mall downtown. The Tidal Basin is a man-made reservoir located between the Potomac River and the Washington Channel in Washington, D.C. The Basin is part of West Potomac Park and is a focal point of the Cherry Blossom Festival which features a myriad of events in March and April.
Shimmering in the sun, surrounded by cherry trees and national monuments, the Tidal Basin is a must see in Washington, D.C. The Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and the Washington Monument are easily visible along the two mile long Tidal Basin Loop Trail.
The Metro serves several stations close by:
- The Smithsonian/National Mall station on the Orange, Blue and Silver lines is the closest Metro station to the Tidal Basin.
- L’Enfant Plaza, served by the Orange, Silver, Blue, Yellow and Green lines, is about 1 mile away from the Tidal Basin
- The closest Red Line stations are Farragut North and Metro Center, about 1.2 miles away.
Metrobus is also an option — use Metro’s Trip Planner or Google Maps to plan your route.
